Amy Shenberger works closely with faculty and upper administration to advance the University of North Texas’s mission and initiatives through the design and delivery of high impact, international academic programs. She is responsible for directing the activities and operations of the Study Abroad Office in accordance with university policy.

She has traveled extensively and lived, studied, and worked in Japan, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. As a college student in a small college in the Texas Hill Country, she leaped blindly into an exchange program in rural Japan. Throughout that year, she developed an appreciation for all things Japanese and discovered that study abroad advisors exist to guide students through this type of transformative experience. After teaching English in Japan for three years, Ms. Shenberger returned to the U.S. to study International and Intercultural Management at the School for International Training in Vermont and pursue a career in education abroad.

Ms. Shenberger holds a Master of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Arizona State University. For almost ten years, she worked in international education at Arizona State University serving most recently as the Director of Study Abroad. In her time at ASU, she oversaw the streamlining of processes and policies and the reorganization of the office into a comprehensive service unit. In order to reconnect with her love of travel and working directly with students, Ms. Shenberger spent a year as the Resident Director of study abroad programs in Istanbul, Turkey and Sydney, Australia.

After regaining firsthand perspective on the overseas student experience, she decided to return to the U.S. and her hometown of Denton. Ms. Shenberger is committed to providing every UNT student with the opportunity to integrate an international perspective into their degree.
