Q: What made you choose your study abroad program?
A: I wanted a richer feel for the Arab culture, and I wanted to challenge myself by practicing my language skills and submerging myself in a completely new world where I could try so many things I’d never picture myself doing.

Q: Why do you feel it is important for UNT students to study abroad?
A: Participating in a study abroad program allows for a cultural and educational experience that comes once in a lifetime. It allows for educational advancements for credits that will be required either way, and promises a life-changing experience that can bring students to explore different places, cultures, traditions, and even religions. Learning about other cultures is crucial in learning to embrace the differences around the world.

Q: How did studying abroad change your goals, interests, outlook, and worldview?
A: Upon applying to my study abroad program, I knew study abroad was something I’d wanted to partake in, but never did I imagine I’d enjoy it nearly as much as I did. Traveling and studying in different countries gave me a new sense of independence and sparked a new desire to learn languages and about all kinds of cultures, some of which I didn’t even know existed until I went and experienced them for myself.

Q: What is your most favorite memory from studying abroad?
A: Probably getting to stay with a host family there so I could experience the reality of living in the country I chose and getting to really live like a local. All the adventures we went on hiking, swimming, and walking were also my favorites, as I saw some truly unforgettable sights.

Q: What advice to you have for students considering study abroad or have upcoming study abroad trips?
A: Think of study abroad as a planned and obtainable trip that you can use to further your education and make traveling in the future easier and more realistic when the time comes. When you look back, you’ll regret not going more than having experienced it all.
