Our primary concern when administering programs abroad is the safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff.
UNT recognizes that some areas of the world present heightened health and safety risks and uses a number of resources, including the Department of State, the Centers for Disease Control and intelligence services provided through our insurers, to identify regions that require special efforts to mitigate an elevated level of risk or call for the avoidance of travel altogether when necessary.
The Study Abroad Office works with the UNT Risk Management Office on the International Risk Oversight Committee (IROC) to review all travel to high-risk areas or regions of travel. The committee reviews safety risks based on the current U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisories and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.
